About Kala Kharik
Kala Kharik is black dried dates (kharik), ground fine. Nothing is added: no sugar, no flour, no preservative. It tastes deep and caramel-like, and it is our favourite for warm milk, kheer and ladoo.
Whole kharik is hard to chew, which is why many elders stop eating it. Ground fine, the same dates stir straight into a glass of warm milk.
In Maharashtra, kharik pud goes into dinkache ladoo, the sweet families make for new mothers. Every Saanjh Thaal comes with that recipe.
How to use
Stir 1–2 teaspoons into warm milk, chai or porridge. Date sugar dissolves more slowly than white sugar, so let it sit for a minute and stir again. Use it in place of sugar in ladoo, kheer, halwa and baking. Close the zip after every use.
Ingredients
100% black dried dates (kharik).
Store in a cool, dry place and close the zip after every use. Best-before date is printed on the pack. Dates contain natural fruit sugars; if you are diabetic, pregnant or under medical care, ask your doctor first.
